Personal finance...

Sooner or later, many families and couples come to the idea of seeing their finances in numbers. The matters can be different:

  • for analyzing the biggest spends,

  • on what they really spend money,

  • for splitting some amounts between different projects or even family members,

  • or saving for something valuable,

  • for forecasting...

We decided to start our first Excel table about ten years ago. It really helped us to solve a lot of family’s issues and saved many hours of discussions. But we had problem with local Excel table because only I could see and support it. If I need to know an opinion of my husband, I had to send him a table and wait, or give him access to my laptop.

Not a long time ago we uploaded that Excel table to Google Docs. Oh, it was amazing! Everybody from our family (not really, only us because of sharing) can see our finance and maintain expenses or income.

But Excel can't work like a real financial system. We have changed Excel views several times and made a lot of mistakes.

So, we tried to find an application for our finances, but failed. Honestly, we have found a lot of applications, but we didn’t find the solution that is:

  • Working on Windows, OSX and Linux notebooks and tablets. There are many applications for iPhone and Android, but it isn’t easy to create the transaction on my phone, or analyze my income/expenses. Sorry, guys, but the phone screen is too small for seeing, and the phone keyboard is too bad for typing.

  • Simple. Yes, I have viewed a lot of different programs and some of them looks like a control panel of spacecraft, sorry again…

  • Secure. I don’t want to give my bank account login and password to the third-party service. Sorry Mint and others, but do you really think that I should trust you?

So, we developed our own system. MoneyBench is the service, that is:

  • Impersonal. Nobody knows the owner of any account. You need only a valid e-mail and password, to login and work in our application.

  • Functional. We track our finances in our application and right now it covers all functions of our Excel table from Google Docs and gives much more . Also, it helped to see a lot of errors in our Excel table.

  • Maintained. We tried a lot of different applications and some of them were good enough, but we didn’t see any updates during a long period. This application we did for ourselves and will continue to work on it :)

  • Cheap. We are planning to charge about $3-5 per month, which is twice less than many desktop finance applications charge you for updates. Today, we have no plans to create and ad-sponsored package because everyone can pay a price of one cup of coffee for something useful. E.g., we pay every month for Office365 a price of 2-3 cups of coffee, and this is fair compared to Office 2016 Home that costs 100 cups of coffee!

  • Developing. We are working on new features right now, but we need your help in shaping them out.

Give us a chance to create something useful for all!
